Matea Friend is a new media artist working in Los Angeles, California. They are interested in how technology allows us to perceive the limitations of our knowledge, while simultaneously expanding our understanding. Through layered conceptual installations, their work distorts the perception of reality and challenges traditional notions of gender, identity, and the environment. Friend is interested in experiential design and creating intangible worlds through light, sound, and ephemeral materiality.
Friend received a BFA from the Design Media Arts program at the University of California Los Angeles and has exhibited their work throughout Los Angeles, California at The New Wright Gallery, Telluric Vibrations as part of Ars Electronica 2020, The UCLA Broad Art Center, Art | Sci Center Gallery and Pop-up at 424 Fairfax.
